The pollution in the Niger delta – of air, water and soil – has had grave consequences for the lives, health and human rights of local people. This situation will be addressed by Alice Ukoko, who is originally from the delta Niger area. Through the Women of Africa organization, she's devoting her efforts to the campaign to end human rights abuse in Nigeria.
The second important issue is going to be Bhopal, where one of the worst industrial catastrophes occurred 25 years ago and where around 130,000 people still suffer negative consequences. Peter Finnigan, executive secretary of Bhopal Medical Appeal, will talk about the continuation of poisoning even after 25 years.
The Amnesty International research into the influence of corporations on human rights will be presented by the Director of Amnesty International Slovenia, Nataša Posel, who will focus mostly on corporate liability. The round table will be conducted by Kristina Božič, who's also an AIS activist.
